Story from Chandyoga upnishad. 

Here I describe a story from Chandyoga Upnishad which define the inner knowledge which make you able to know what is unknown, to hear what is unheard , to think what is unthought-of, to see what is unseen, to realize what is unrealized.

Once a sage named Uddalaka. His name was Aruni, He was very reverent learner so his guru recalled him as Uddalaka means one who has raised up or reached to the truth. He had a son named Shvetaketu. He sent his son when he enters into teen age for the studies of spiritual path. He learnt scripture, Vedas, spiritual path for next 12 years. After completing his studies he returned home with delighted intellectual. His father observed his son and notice that boy is proud of his learning. His father asked him, “ My son have you asked your Guru for that spiritual knowledge which enables you to realize what is unrealized, which takes you from darkness to light, which take you from fiction to truth.

What is that knowledge father? Asked Svetakettu.

 

Father replied that is inner knowledge which makes you known from unknown. That is known as Vidya and can be attained through meditation on divine with grace of guru, right ethics and discipline.

My Guru has given me knowledge of Vedas, scriptures but I have not attained any knowledge which is attained by meditation. What is that knowledge? Father please teach me.

Upanishad meaning is to sit close and learn. Pupil sit close to the Guru and Guru imparts this secret doctrine which is unknown yet. By knowing what doubt will not remain.

Uddalaka as Guru of Shvetaketu says , In the beginning there was only one Being with One thought. The one thought was to create many from one being. So out of one being this creation was created. Now One is multiplied by many being and One thought multiplied by many being thought. That One being is Supreme Self and many being is We. We are originated from Supreme one being. His one thought created us. One thought created many thought, so we also have thought in our mind, That is the reason in our life at the time of death wherever our thought will be, we will take that form. I may explain this in detail later. That  one being is Truth, which was in beginning and will remain always. That is beyond birth and death. But we as many being are subject to birth and death till we do not connect our thought to one Supreme thought. We have individual soul originated from Supreme soul. TAT TVAM ASI means you are that but this truth can be understand when you do your meditation and learn to unite your individual soul to supreme soul. You cannot see your individual soul and neither you can separate. Like you put salt in water and it will dissolve in water. You can never separate salt from the water nor you can see the salt, but when you drink you can feel the presence of salt in water, similar way you can never see soul and you cannot separate it from body but in your inner meditation you can realize the soul presence and you can realize what is unrealized, So the mystery of soul is unrealized to you but it can be realized by mediation on Supreme, there you will be learn to unite your individual soul to supreme soul. There soul rejoice, enter into bliss, it shed its disqualifies which are anger, ego, pride, attachment, lust and it turn pure and merge with cosmic energy , with one thought which was in origin, with one being which was in origin, and there it remain in bliss. There it says ,” You are That – TAT TVAM ASI”.

His father took help of one more example to make him understand that how from one being many being & huge creation is been created with unseen self, So he told his boy to bring one fruit from the tree nearby. There was a banyan tree nearby, boy went and bring fruit of it. Uddalaka asked him to open it and bring the seed out, then boy took the seed. Then father asked to break the seed and asked what he found. The boy said nothing. Uddalaka told that see how huge tree has created with this small seed and when you break seed you cannot see anything in it. The soul is unseen but you can see life of the soul. Similar way you can see the human body but you cannot see the soul. But you can attain the knowledge of soul by meditation on Supreme and can learn to unite your individual soul to Supreme soul. Like rivers flows at many different place but they merge at one place in Sea , similar way individual soul moves in many form and many place but when the time come to merge then it will be merged with Supreme o
