Teaching of Guru Nanak Dev Ji
Ref Guru Granth Sabib Ji – P 469
जोग सबदं गिआन सबदं बेद सबदं ब्राहमणह ॥ खत्री सबदं सूर सबदं सूद्र सबदं परा क्रितह ॥ सरब सबदं एक सबदं जे को जाणै भेउ ॥ नानकु ता का दासु है सोई निरंजन देउ ॥३॥
When the follower of the path of Moksha try to attain it, his body start to perform yoga and meditation, Slowly he gains knowledge, slowly he get understanding of Vedas and he attain the level of Honest and perfect Brahmin who is knower of Vedas and who has purified his nerves and his self perfectly. He became Brave, Fearless, shed his ego , for him all human are same , he never believe in low profile or high profile caste systems, All this attainment are gained by the seeker by following the path of Moksha only, Nanay say he salutes him and serve him as he has attained the qualities like supreme and he is alike Supreme as he has attain Salvation.
नानक मेरु सरीर का इकु रथु इकु रथवाहु ॥ जुगु जुगु फेरि वटाईअहि गिआनी बुझहि ताहि ॥ सतजुगि रथु संतोख का धरमु अगै रथवाहु ॥ त्रेतै रथु जतै का जोरु अगै रथवाहु ॥ दुआपुरि रथु तपै का सतु अगै रथवाहु ॥ कलजुगि रथु अगनि का कूड़ु अगै रथवाहु ॥१॥ (p 470)
Guru Nanak Dev Ji states that This body has one Chariot and one charioteer. The spiritual personalities who are in spiritual practices for many birth they may attain this knowledge. Guru Nanak ji explain the soul purity as per yugas. In SatYug known as Golden age the soul Chariot was contentment and Charioteer was right conducts. In Tretra Yug known as silver age the soul Chariot was celibacy, and Power was Charioteer (By maintaining celibacy for aporox 11 years one become able to attain Moksha) In Dwaapr Yuga known as Brass age Soul Chariot was austerity and Truth was Charioteer. In Kalyuga soul Chariot is Fire and Charioteer are misleading path and teaching of Fraud. ( here guru Nanak explain about fake sadhus, Fake guru who are misleading the seeker on this Moksha Path)
पड़ि पुसतक संधिआ बादं ॥ सिल पूजसि बगुल समाधं ॥ मुखि झूठ बिभूखण सारं ॥ त्रैपाल तिहाल बिचारं ॥ गलि माला तिलकु लिलाटं ॥ दुइ धोती बसत्र कपाटं ॥ जे जाणसि ब्रहमं करमं ॥ सभि फोकट निसचउ करमं ॥ कहु नानक निहचउ धिआवै ॥ विणु सतिगुर वाट न पावै ॥२॥
Guru Nanak Dev ji states the difference between the realized soul and the fake one who pretend he attain truth. The pretender will read many books and try to attain more knowledge through mere reading then he will be indulge in argue with others only. Fake one will be pretending that they have attain Samadhi stage and he will be strong believer of idol worship and rituals. Fake one must have decorate himself with stones and jewelry and given a look of saint to himself and his mouth will be always stating lies to people. He will be doing his prayer to show the people for some selected time only. He must put some rosary and will apply sacred mark on forehead. Fake one must will wear that clothes in which he could show off to the other that he has attained saint level. If someone is truly knower of the Brahmand has attain truth, he will not do any above stated actions as this all sign indicate to lower thoughts connected with worldly pleasure to earn fame and money. The True one will be observed in his meditation and serving his guru, As he is the knower of truth and he always acknowledge that with grace of his guru he has attain this stage,

Why not I sacrifice my all at least one time on my lord. Oh my whatever you decide we accept that. You are eternal and formless always. To reach to your adobe the path is immeasurable recitation of holy name and immeasurable love, immeasurable worship, immeasurable austerity followed by discipline, immeasurable reading of scripture, Vedas, immeasurable yoga and your mind should feel detachment from worldly affairs,counteless are the followers of this path, countless are those who sacrifice all, and countless are those who renounce all , countless are spiritual warriors, countless many sages who took pledge to know this truth, But his nature and his truth can not be describe after finding, it is indescribable. Why not I sacrifice all this supreme who is so immense. You are eternal and formless one , whatever he decide everyone has to accept. There are many ignorant as well who do not follow his path, many who do not worship him, many who think that by force they will apply their own will, many are sinners who knowingly does sins, many who lies , many who eats tamsik food, many who criticize other and by criticizing they attain their bad conduct on themselves, I am at lower stage and I am thinking about all this , Why not I sacrifice all at least once on Supreme. Supreme has countless name and supreme is present at immeasurable places, Unapproachable divine has countless celestial, Even countless word also is not suitable, Supreme is the Word, and The word is praiseworthy. When in your meditation journey on supreme you will reach to this Word which is also known as Naad you will attain true Knowledge. This word is mentioned in all written scripture and this is the word for someone sings praises. But only that can reach to this word who has good fortune. Whosoever has reached to this word with his fortune at that stage whatever he ask for he receive. It is all your glory. Without Supreme name there is no other place where one can get contentment. This nature how I can describe. Why not atleast one time I sacrifice all, I surrender in your will my lord, You are always concerned The formless one.

तेरी अनिक तेरी अनिक करहि हरि पूजा जी तपु तापहि जपहि बेअंता ॥ तेरे अनेक तेरे अनेक पड़हि बहु सिम्रिति सासत जी करि किरिआ खटु करम करंता ॥
To attain Salvation many many seeker do worship to Lord, many perform austerity, many recite your name endless time. So many read Vedas and shastras, to attain it so many do ritual and religious practices.

तगु न इंद्री तगु न नारी ॥ भलके थुक पवै नित दाड़ी ॥ तगु न पैरी तगु न हथी ॥ तगु न जिहवा तगु न अखी ॥ वेतगा आपे वतै ॥ वटि धागे अवरा घतै ॥ लै भाड़ि करे वीआहु ॥ कढि कागलु दसे राहु ॥ सुणि वेखहु लोका एहु विडाणु ॥ मनि अंधा नाउ सुजाणु ॥४॥
Here Guru Nanak dev ji describe about Fake spiritual personalities, There are always fake people on this path who show themselves guru or priest and perform ritual and religious act for other human benefits, but Guru Nanak Dev states even they themselves are not saved how these people can help you. In hindu tradition there is caste Brahmin, they wear a Thread of religious ceremony and then they do religious act and take money from others, But here is describe by wearing that thread they have not attain any control on their sense, their lust, their sexual thoughts, their greed, on their taste, their desire, their anger, They are not saved themselves how they can help other people. Guru Nanak Dev jI recalls them their mind is blind and to show off they have attain fame in public that they are religious , which will not give any benefit to them as well as to those who will follow this fake persons.
It is better to have no Guru than following a fake guru. So Guru Nanak Dev ji advising about not to follow any fake rituals and fake guru, it will take you to further darkness.
छोडीले पाखंडा ॥ नामि लइऐ जाहि तरंदा ॥१॥
There are countless of fake people on path of spirituality who are taking others also to astray. Guru Nanak Dev Ji alerts that where is the need to follow fake path, there is only one door to cross this ocean, Only recite lord name you will attain salvation, you will merge with divine, stop all path leads you to astray.

In each human being there is one flame which burns with fire of desires, Similarly one Thirst is also present which quench with water of spirituality. If flame is increasing with worldly desires then thirst will be reduced, if thirst is increasing then fire will be reduced.
To cease the fire completely one need to unite his individual soul to the supreme soul, Until fire is not ceased man will be subject to sufferings. Until whole thirst is not quench bliss zone will be ceased. To enter to bliss zone one need to cease the fire and quench the thirst.
मन का सूतकु लोभु है जिहवा सूतकु कूड़ु ॥ अखी सूतकु वेखणा पर त्रिअ पर धन रूपु ॥ कंनी सूतकु कंनि पै लाइतबारी खाहि ॥ नानक हंसा आदमी बधे जम पुरि जाहि ॥२॥ सभो सूतकु भरमु है दूजै लगै जाइ ॥ जमणु मरणा हुकमु है भाणै आवै जाइ ॥ खाणा पीणा पवित्रु है दितोनु रिजकु स्मबाहि ॥ नानक जिन्ही गुरमुखि बुझिआ तिन्हा सूतकु नाहि ॥३॥ p 472 पहिला सुचा आपि होइ सुचै बैठा आइ ॥ सुचे अगै रखिओनु कोइ न भिटिओ जाइ ॥ सुचा होइ कै जेविआ लगा पड़णि सलोकु ॥
Until our individual soul does not unite to supreme soul, our mind will be impure by greed, our tounge will remain impure with falsehood, Our eyes will remain full of lust either by looking other woman/man or other property/possession, his ears will be impure by slanders of others. Nanak state that with impurity no one can attain salivation. But this all impurity is present in each human being because he is in doubt, He do not know the path to unite his soul to individual soul by which he can make his mind pure. The cycle of death and birth is under Lord command and someone is bound in that cycle till he do not get pure in his inner journey. Merely keeping fast or controlling on food , fasting cannot turn someone pure. By following the path of lord one can get pure with his thoughts but this is possible only when someone follow the teaching of saints. By following teaching of saint all doubts will be clear as soul will get purified and a pure soul is eligible to merge with Lord. When the soul get pure and merge with supreme then it attains knowledge of all vedas and spiritual books, His intellect propagate and through his intellect he help others to walk on this path
Pg 476गुर चरण लागि हम बिनवता पूछत कह जीउ पाइआ ॥ कवन काजि जगु उपजै बिनसै कहहु मोहि समझाइआ ॥१॥ देव करहु दइआ मोहि मारगि लावहु जितु भै बंधन तूटै ॥ जनम मरन दुख फेड़ करम सुख जीअ जनम ते छूटै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ माइआ फास बंध नही फारै अरु मन सुंनि न लूके ॥ आपा पदु निरबाणु न चीन्हिआ इन बिधि अभिउ न चूके ॥२॥ कही न उपजै उपजी जाणै भाव अभाव बिहूणा ॥ उदै असत की मन बुधि नासी तउ सदा सहजि लिव लीणा ॥३॥ जिउ प्रतिबि्मबु बि्मब कउ मिली है उदक कु्मभु बिगराना ॥ कहु कबीर ऐसा गुण भ्रमु भागा तउ मनु सुंनि समानां ॥४॥१॥
This rhyme is written by Devotee Kabeer who followed the path of Moksha, With devotion he states I surrender on my Guru feet , I pray and asking why life is created, Please give me knowledge about what is the casue of universe creation and destruction. Please shower your grace upon me so that I could come out from this attachment and attain salvation. This life is full of sufferings, please show me the path I could come out from cycle of death and rebirth. Human is stuck with worldly pleasure, that is why mind is wondering and suffering. If human follow path of moksha and attain Nirvana stage then he will not be suffering. Once Nirvana stage is attain by the seeker who has unite his individual soul to supreme soul, he knows that soul will neither die nor born, he will be also get freedom from pair of pain/pleasure and will enter into bliss and peace slowly progressing in inner journey. Then your mind will become still, it will not wonder and his all doubts will be dispelled. To state this master kabeer has given example like water can clearly mirror the object only so long as it surface is undisturbed, similarly mind can only find the truth when it is still.
बापि दिलासा मेरो कीन्हा ॥ सेज सुखाली मुखि अम्रितु दीन्हा ॥ तिसु बाप कउ किउ मनहु विसारी ॥ आगै गइआ न बाजी हारी ॥१॥ मुई मेरी माई हउ खरा सुखाला ॥ पहिरउ नही दगली लगै न पाला ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥बलि तिसु बापै जिनि हउ जाइआ ॥ पंचा ते मेरा संगु चुकाइआ ॥ पंच मारि पावा तलि दीने ॥ हरि सिमरनि मेरा मनु तनु भीने ॥२॥पिता हमारो वड गोसाई ॥ तिसु पिता पहि हउ किउ करि जाई ॥ सतिगुर मिले त मारगु दिखाइआ ॥ जगत पिता मेरै मनि भाइआ ॥३॥ हउ पूतु तेरा तूं बापु मेरा ॥ एकै ठाहर दुहा बसेरा ॥ कहु कबीर जनि एको बूझिआ ॥ गुर प्रसादि मै सभु किछु सूझिआ ॥४॥३॥
Bhagat Kabeer states that when he walk on path of Moksha with worshipping to the Lord, he got a trust that his father will take care of all. He took me to the bliss zone where I am in pleasure. How I can forget this father. At the time of death he will protect me as I will merge with him. My ego has died and I turned pure without sin, I attain a stage where pair of pain-pleasure, happiness-sorrows, rich-poor, cold-heat turn all same for me, I sacrifice on my lord as he has given me such a wonderful bliss. MY five enemies which were lust,anger, ego,pride and attachment I fight with them all and conquered by keeping my feet above all and these five enemies has left me now, My soul now rejoice when I meditate on my Lord. My father is greatest. My father does all. But this path only can be shown by a Guru who himself attained salvation and reached to lord adobe. He will take you there and when you will see the Divine your mind will rejoice. I am your son and you are my father o Lord. You are Whole and I am whole from whole. Kabeer state I only know One Lord and I could reach to his adobe only by following my guru teaching and with his grace.
476,477जोगी जती तपी संनिआसी बहु तीरथ भ्रमना ॥ लुंजित मुंजित मोनि जटाधर अंति तऊ मरना ॥१॥ ता ते सेवीअले रामना ॥ रसना राम नाम हितु जा कै कहा करै जमना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ आगम निरगम जोतिक जानहि बहु बहु बिआकरना ॥ तंत मंत्र सभ अउखध जानहि अंति तऊ मरना ॥२॥ राज भोग अरु छत्र सिंघासन बहु सुंदरि रमना ॥ पान कपूर सुबासक चंदन अंति तऊ मरना ॥३॥ बेद पुरान सिम्रिति सभ खोजे कहू न ऊबरना ॥ कहु कबीर इउ रामहि ज्मपउ मेटि जनम मरना ॥४॥५॥

477बटूआ एकु बहतरि आधारी एको जिसहि दुआरा ॥ नवै खंड की प्रिथमी मागै सो जोगी जगि सारा ॥१॥ ऐसा जोगी नउ निधि पावै ॥ तल का ब्रहमु ले गगनि चरावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ खिंथा गिआन धिआन करि सूई सबदु तागा मथि घालै ॥ पंच ततु की करि मिरगाणी गुर कै मारगि चालै ॥२॥ दइआ फाहुरी काइआ करि धूई द्रिसटि की अगनि जलावै ॥ तिस का भाउ लए रिद अंतरि चहु जुग ताड़ी लावै ॥३॥ सभ जोगतण राम नामु है जिस का पिंडु पराना ॥ कहु कबीर जे किरपा धारै देइ सचा नीसाना ॥४॥७॥

सनक सनंद अंतु नही पाइआ ॥ बेद पड़े पड़ि ब्रहमे जनमु गवाइआ ॥१॥ हरि का बिलोवना बिलोवहु मेरे भाई ॥ सहजि बिलोवहु जैसे ततु न जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ तनु करि मटुकी मन माहि बिलोई ॥ इसु मटुकी महि सबदु संजोई ॥२॥ हरि का बिलोवना मन का बीचारा ॥ गुर प्रसादि पावै अम्रित धारा ॥३॥ कहु कबीर नदरि करे जे मींरा ॥ राम नाम लगि उतरे तीरा ॥४॥१॥१०॥
The greatest saint also could not find the Lord limit, By merely reading the scripture and vedas , many has wasted their life as they could not attain salvation. For making butter from curd we churn steadily so that butter will not be lost likewise you have to be devoted toward lord and practice your devotion and yog everyday, it is a slow process and you will attain the goal if you follow the path with patience and gradually. You can assume like your body is the churning jar and mind is stick to churn and slowly churn it till you reach to inner sound. When your thought will be stick only on lord whether you are on work or sitting in meditation your mind is subdue in Lord then with guru grace you will attain the nectar flow and you will enter into bliss zone. Kabeer States if Lord shower his grace on you , you will attain this stage and you will attain salvation and enter into bliss zone.
सुतु अपराध करत है जेते ॥ जननी चीति न राखसि तेते ॥१॥ रामईआ हउ बारिकु तेरा ॥ काहे न खंडसि अवगनु मेरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ जे अति क्रोप करे करि धाइआ ॥ ता भी चीति न राखसि माइआ ॥२॥ चिंत भवनि मनु परिओ हमारा ॥ नाम बिना कैसे उतरसि पारा ॥३॥ देहि बिमल मति सदा सरीरा ॥ सहजि सहजि गुन रवै कबीरा ॥४॥३॥१२॥
Devotee Kabeer states like mother never keeps his child mistake in mind, she immediately forgives likewise I am child of my Lord, he is my fathe. Why not he will forgive for all our sins we did, Like when child is angry , he run away after doing mistake then also mother do not keep in mind, she forgives after the child come back to him, Likewise my mind was disturbed in anxiety and it run away from Lord name, But now it has come to know that without name of lord it can not get freedom and enter into peace. When I recite my lord name I attain wise intellect, healthy body and slowly slowly I entered into bliss by following this path.
बारह बरस बालपन बीते बीस बरस कछु तपु न कीओ ॥ तीस बरस कछु देव न पूजा फिरि पछुताना बिरधि भइओ ॥१॥ मेरी मेरी करते जनमु गइओ ॥ साइरु सोखि भुजं बलइओ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ सूके सरवरि पालि बंधावै लूणै खेति हथ वारि करै ॥ आइओ चोरु तुरंतह ले गइओ मेरी राखत मुगधु फिरै ॥२॥ चरन सीसु कर क्मपन लागे नैनी नीरु असार बहै ॥ जिहवा बचनु सुधु नही निकसै तब रे धरम की आस करै ॥३॥ हरि जीउ क्रिपा करै लिव लावै लाहा हरि हरि नामु लीओ ॥ गुर परसादी हरि धनु पाइओ अंते चलदिआ नालि चलिओ ॥४॥ कहत कबीर सुनहु रे संतहु अनु धनु कछूऐ लै न गइओ ॥ आई तलब गोपाल राइ की माइआ मंदर छोडि चलिओ ॥५॥२॥१५॥
Here Master Kabeer States that a human after birth spend his aprox 12 years in childhood, then next 20 years he do not perform any self-discipline, for next thirty years human do not perform any devotion and when is getting close to his death then he repent. He finish his entire life in worries of worldly possessions. At old age body is not fit to perform yoga to attain salvation. He tries to recite lord name but his effort go in vain like someone try to hold the water from dried lake or someone try to grow salt in the fields. When death approach him then he thinks whatever he has collected he can not take with him, His feet and hands tremble and his tears fall out from his eyes. He did not recite lord name and earn his religion, and at the time of death he has hope that he will attain salvation. If lord shower his grace on the selected soul then that human with supreme grace only get eligibility to recite lord name, If a person recite lord name slowly then with guru grace it become his treasure which he can carry with him at the time of death, rest all will remain on the earth, Says Kabeer Listen o Saints no worldly possession will be taken by the man who is going to die , only if he has treasure of naam can be taken by him.
482 सासु की दुखी ससुर की पिआरी जेठ के नामि डरउ रे ॥ सखी सहेली ननद गहेली देवर कै बिरहि जरउ रे ॥१॥ मेरी मति बउरी मै रामु बिसारिओ किन बिधि रहनि रहउ रे ॥ सेजै रमतु नैन नही पेखउ इहु दुखु का सउ कहउ रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ बापु सावका करै लराई माइआ सद मतवारी ॥ बडे भाई कै जब संगि होती तब हउ नाह पिआरी ॥२॥ कहत कबीर पंच को झगरा झगरत जनमु गवाइआ ॥ झूठी माइआ सभु जगु बाधिआ मै राम रमत सुखु पाइआ ॥३॥३॥२५॥
Master kabeer stating the condition of individual soul when it is not connected with supreme soul then it is stuck in worldly desire, illusion, it has fear of death, it is in bondage of suffering and worldly relationship. It is enjoying worldly pleasure. But my mind was insane I forgot Lord name, How my mind was enjoying this fake pleasure of world without remembering Lord name, Now my mind has felt the pain of separation with lord, I am awaiting to have my lord vision, but this pain of separation to whom should I share, I am not able to bear it after knowing the truth. I have recognize my ego & worldly desire are the hurdle in path of divine. With meditation on my Lord and with recitation of lord name I will be able to cut my ego and desires, I was wasting my life with anger,ego, lust, attachment and pride, but now I have followed truth and my mind has got this intellect that this entire world is stuck in illusion. My soul has merge with truth and it has attained bliss and contentment.
